During any working day I get asked a number of questions regarding hypnosis. I have listed a few down with some answers in this article.

Can anyone use Hypnosis?

The short answer to this question is yes of course; anyone can use Hypnosis. However some people find it easier than others to achieve a deep level of hypnosis. Later in the book you will learn how to put yourself into a Hypnotic trance. If you do have difficulty, just stay with it. It’s true what they say, “Practice makes perfect”. Even though Hypnosis is a completely normal state, I am showing you these techniques to teach you how to anchor its power, how to use it when you want, and not just when you use it naturally.

Is Hypnosis dangerous?

As I have mentioned before Hypnosis is a completely natural state. We go into trance regularly on a day to day basis. I don’t consider it to be dangerous whatsoever. You have probably heard stories about people being controlled while under Hypnosis, well I’m afraid that is Hollywood’s interpretations and they have no science to back them up. Certainly Hypnosis is extremely successful, but only in getting you what you want. You can’t be made in Hypnosis to do anything that you don’t want to and you will feel completely comfortable the whole time. However there is practical measures that you need to keep in mind. Obviously if you practice Hypnosis in the car while driving with your eyes shut, then you might have a problem. Actually it is not a good idea at all to listen to your recordings while driving.

What if I don’t wake up?

Hypnosis is a completely ordinary and regular state and it cannot hold you against your will. If you were to go so deep as to enter a truly deep trance state, you would basically go into natural sleep and wake up when you were ready to do so. It is not possible for anyone to be `left or stuck` in hypnosis. During your practice time, if there were an emergency or something that needed your attention, you could easily awaken yourself at any time and simply stop.

What will it feel like?

It is an exclusive experience! Trance is a natural state that is comparable to that feeling you get prior to you falling asleep at night. When you wake up, you feel invigorated and rejuvenated as though you have had a long sleep. You just feel as if you are relaxing in a very contented space with your eyes closed. You can pay attention to everything, the sounds outside the building, a car going down the street outside, whatever. You have full awareness the whole time, conscious of everything going on around you as well as what your sub-conscious is revealing to you. I compare it to watching television in one room while a radio is on in another; you can transfer your awareness back and forth switching between the two, absorbed in one but still conscious of the other.

How does Hypnosis differ from meditation?

In meditation you do enter a trance; however you just go with the flow and have little or no control over your experience. Hypnosis manipulates this trance state. You get to choose how deep you want to go and what you want to achieve while you are there. With Hypnosis you guide yourself all the way through and remain in complete control.

How will I know that I have been in Trance?

You will have to trust me on this one as everyone’s experience of trance is different. If you are ever able to watch somebody go into trance then you will notice that their whole face seems to change. They look so relaxed and almost like they are a different person. Unfortunately you can not see this on yourself when you are in trance. You probably also will not be bothered to notice what you body feels like as your conscious mind will be somewhere else, almost feeling dissociated from you body. You will notice that it will be possibly the most relaxed that you have ever been before. You will also know because of the results that you get. If you are using Hypnosis for a specific issue, you should notice improvements, obviously if it has improved then you have been in trance. Do not expect all bells and whistles because as I keep saying this is natural and you have experienced it thousands of times before. So just read, learn, relax and enjoy!

When should I practice?

Personally I like to practice in the morning as this fits best into my day and also as it is such a powerful tool that it is great to help you plan your day! However you can practice when you wish, but it is a good idea to set a time and stick to it. Once you have been practicing regularly you will soon notice how quickly that it fits into your day to day routine and the more you practice then the more you will enjoy amazing results.

How long should I practice for?

Quality of time is more imperative than duration of time. Set aside some nominated time when you won’t be bothered by anyone or anything, 15 to 20 minutes a day as a guide. Keep in mind that time spent committed to self-hypnosis is time invested in yourself to make constructive self-change, so practice frequently. Also, as you become more experienced you may find that you need a lesser amount of time.

How long does it take to get results with Hypnosis?

The answer to this question is that it depends. Using Hypnosis certainly speeds up the process of change and also makes that change much more successful. However it does depend on how much work and time that you put in. The other key factor is the issue that you are dealing with. With a little time you will be able to work through most issues, however with some you may need to seek professional help from a fully qualified Hypnotherapist.

Today more than ever people are turning to non- traditional means of healing and medicine to combat
the dangers of medications and other medical practices. In recent years hypnosis has been controversial for what appears to be because it is simply misunderstood. Many people have a vision of someone dangling a watch back in forth to send the patient to another planet. This is not the case and is only one of the many myths that plague the practice.
Hypnosis allows for a deep relaxation and becoming one with the inner soul and mind. There are a number of benefits from hypnosis and is proven to help in healing and relaxation. One of the myths is that hypnosis only allows the person to relax while in a ‘trance’.
First, the reason that hypnosis works is because it allows for the person to resolve issues during the session that are currently causing distress in their lives. Many therapists use hypnosis for memory therapy and to help the patient come to terms with feelings and disturbances.
Another very common myth is that the hypnotist can put thoughts or feelings into the mind of their patient. This could not be further from the truth. During hypnosis the patient is fully aware of their surroundings and actions.
This myth comes from the fact that many individuals can be brainwashed, but this generally happens in the everyday world not during hypnosis. Hypnosis can not make the person act or believe something that they are not already inclined to do so.
As with anything there are a few individuals that have caused hypnosis to fall under the prey of skeptical members of society. Over the years some have entered into the profession with improper training and basically were attempting to line their pockets.
A way to avoid this is to only visit a reputable provider and ensure that they have the credentials to perform hypnosis. For those skeptics and others that question the validity of hypnosis we simply refer to studies that have found the healing and health benefits of hypnosis. There is no arguing with reputable research and patients that report medical benefits.
Anxiety disorder affects millions of individuals every year. These distortions are based on the irrational fears of others viewing them or looking upon them in a negative light. The best way to dispel these irrational fears is to face them and learn to hold their chin up, facing their fears with clinical hypnosis.
The scripting in their mind has become such that they hear things that are not even really there. The same fear that a person has of an animal is the same fear that the panic or anxiety disorder individual suffers in a crowd of people. Though it is not a realistic fear it is still very real to them.
Everyone has some type of fear or anxiety, but everyone is different. So what may be a fear for one person may not be for another. That is the reason that some do not understand how anyone could be afraid of a crowd, bird or cat.
There are millions of phobias and fears. Hypnosis therapy can help change those anxiety scripts and replace them with a normal script that allows the person to coexist in their environment without fear. Fears cost millions every year in sick days and hospital visits. A hypnosis session is very reasonable and can change the programming of the mind very quickly.
Fears are very real and individuals try very hard to reason their fears away. Unfortunately this is not always successful and it leaves the individual to suffer throughout their lives. Hypnosis treatment can teach the individual how to reason and use logic to make a sound decision as to whether something is real or imagined.
In most cases fears are not logical or possible. For example, a patient that has a fear of cat realizes that a cat will not harm her, yet she is still afraid of them. This is an irrational fear and one that has not been followed through with logic or reasoning. In hypnosis the body is relaxed as well as the mind and allows the brain to rationalize the fear. This is the only true way to reprogram the brain!

There are many benefits to using self hypnosis. It can be used to overcome fears, fight addictions such as smoking, improve confidence and self esteem, and improve sports performance, to name just a few. In fact self hypnosis can be used to improve just about anything you want to in your life.
For some people self hypnosis is extremely easy and requires very little effort. Some take to it like a duck to water, while other people may need to experiment a bit more to reap the wonderful benefits it can bring. This article intends to help you get the most out of self hypnosis.
Self hypnosis can involve a little bit of trial and error at the beginning until you start to identify the conditions that best suit you as an individual. Variables such as the ideal body position, or the most opportune time of day are truly yours to determine based on your particular situation, schedule, and individuality. It’s important to remember that there are no fixed rules that apply to everyone. Everyone is unique and it is left to you to identify what works and how you can most effectively reach that desired state.
There are, however, a few elements which will help increase your degree of success with self hypnosis, regardless of individual needs. Some of the points I will address or based on listening to a recorded self hypnosis CD or download. However, I’ll start with the issues which should be addressed regardless of whether you’re listening to a recording or not.
A fairly obvious requirement is total relaxation, which usually requires reduced distractions. So it is very important to try and find a quiet place that limits or completely obliterates outside sources and choose a time when you are certain you won’t be interrupted. Ensure that if you have people at home, tell them to not disturb you for however long you want, unless of course there is an emergency.
Knowing that hypnosis is in fact an altered state on consciousness, it bears noting that the early morning may not be the best time. You may find you’re extremely alert and hyper-sensitive to distractions at that time. Instead, pick a time of day when you’re slowing down, or typically starting to feel fatigued. For most people, self hypnosis is best in the evening time, preferably more bedtime.
The most useful bit of advice I can give to a beginner is try not to try too hard. Self hypnosis requires concentration, but being overly focuses on being hypnotized will impair the process. Part of the self hypnosis process is being able to just let go and let it happen to you. Rather than focusing on achieving hypnosis, focus on nothing, and let the message make its way clearly and seamlessly, effortlessly, whether it’s a recording or your own words.
Using a recording is a great for self hypnosis. One key factor in getting the most out of a recorded self hypnosis session is regular listening. Repetition is the key to successful suggestion and the more you subject your mind to the message, the more it will penetrate and impact.
Another important factor in getting the most out of a recorded self hypnosis session is to wear headphones. Not only are headphones great if you’re easily distracted, but they also promotes an intimacy between you and the voice on the recording, closing off outside noises, and facilitating a more direct route to your mind.
Like anything else, you will only get out of self hypnosis what you’re willing to put into it. If you’re determined to find ways to fight hypnosis and disprove its effectiveness, you’re unlikely succeed. This is essentially true of anything we do in life. But if you go into it with a clear open mind and you’re willing to invest the time to find your ideal hypnosis conditions, you can literally reap of benefits of self hypnosis on a fairly regular basis, even daily.

How Does Hypnosis Work – Quit Smoking

Lets look at how you may be able to stop smoking using hypnosis. You can consult a quit smoking hypnotist, it would be best, however, to choose a licensed therapist that treats a variety of conditions, rather than just a hypnotist that states they can help you quit smoking after just one session. So, how does hypnosis work with quitting smoking.

Every smoker knows that it’s bad for their health, but many smokers continue the habit for decades. Each year they experience a decline in their health. But why do people take up the habit and why do they find it hard to quit?

Lets look at it rationally. Smoking is a strange behaviour. Smoking is disgusting. Smoking stains your teeth and fingers. Smoking causes bad breath. Smoking creates an unpleasant environment for non-smokers. Most start smoking when they are teenagers because they need to be one of the ‘crowd’ and they want to be cool. If their friends smoke there’s a lot of pressure to take up the habit. Other people turn to smoking because they are looking for a way to relieve stress. Even though tobacco does provide short-term relief, it is a contributing factor to stress in the long run.

Most smokers come to a time in their life where they want to quit. Perhaps their health problems have increased and they finally realise they have to give up their habit. Unfortunately, the addictive nature of tobacco has taken hold and makes it difficult.

How does hypnosis work? Lets look at why hypnosis is a viable option to achieve your goal. In a hypnotic state the emphasis is laid on the psychological healing rather than the physical, to change the persons habit or a behavior. During the time you are in a state of trance you will not appear to be aware of what is being said to you, although, contrary to popular beliefs, you will be conscious throughout. When in a hypnotic state it is your subconscious mind that takes over, this is the part of your brain that stores your memories. The hypnotherapist will talk to your subconscious mind about the benefits to you of not smoking, they will put thoughts into you subconscious like; My thoughts are my own. I am free to do what I want, when I want and go where I want, with no thoughts of smoking cigarettes coming into my mind. Your conscious mind will be conditioned to want to stay away from cigarettes, and there will be no withdrawal symptoms. Now you can feel the freedom without tobacco, how great It is to feel cigarettes no longer have that power over you. You want to stay here in this moment of no smoking for ever, and when you come back from your hypnotic state these thoughts will have been automatically accepted by your conscious mind and you will have no tobacco cravings.

If you choose hypnosis to help you quit smoking you should feel more relaxed and in control. Your intention to quit should still be clear in your mind. Your subconscious mind will kick in and help you to ignore the urge to “light up”. If you choose to quit smoking using hypnosis, you will avoid becoming dependent on nicotine replacement therapy and also avoid the side effects associated with prescription drugs.

Smokers who have tried any of the aids to quit smoking and have found them unsuccessful, or who do not want to go for nicotine replacement therapy (some people find they cannot wear the patches or use the gum) then quit smoking hypnosis seminars can be an attractive option. However, there is a chance that the group hypnosis seminar may not work for some of you. This is because the depth of hypnosis varies from person to person, and the motivation for quitting also differs, everybody is different after all. Hypnosis requires absolute quiet with no distractions. If you are in a room full of other people you may be distracted by small noises which in turn, may make your concentration stray. A better option would be a one to one hypnotherapy session.

Self-hypnosis is good option, the recordings provided in self-hypnosis programs do the same job that a hypnotist’s voice would, they improve your ability to focus. Of course, this is done in the comfort of your own home, at a time that suits you. What could be better? It works for most people. And of course you can have as many sessions as you like and as often as you need, and at no extra cost.

Hypnosis can be effective in other areas too, such as stress management, sexual difficulties, eating disorders, obesity,anger management and shyness. Hypnosis is also used for managing pain. It is especially useful for conditions like inflammatory bowel disease that do not respond well to prescription drugs.

Now looking back, I remember how easy it was for me to quit smoking, I was amazed when I realized that I stopped having a craving for cigarettes and that I never gave smoking another thought.
